The Sound Of Silence (A little insight)
Last week I submitted the motion below for this month's full Council meeting that will take place at 6pm, on October 2nd.
I have made plenty of mistakes in my life and plenty more regarding my Council work, but I have never buried my head in the sand when the big questions needed to be answered. This especially includes, when you the public (the people who keep us in a job) demand that your voices are heard, whilst others remain silent.
Yes, the dust has settled as the weeks have progressed and action seems to be taking place. However, I have received more complaints on this issue than any other issue in my term on Council and that is why I believe that this motion needs to brought to our full Council meeting so that the actions are correctly followed through and that this stinking, fly infested embarrassment never happens again.
The people of this area come first and always will.
The people of this area deserve better.
"This council is concerned about the ongoing foul smell emanating from Warrenpoint Port, the impact this is having on resident’s quality of life and the potential risk it poses to public health.
Whilst we accept that steps are being taken to address the smell, many questions and concerns still remain about how it came about and how much longer it will last. Council will write formally to Warrenpoint Port expressing these concerns and seeking clarity on what will be done to ensure this issue is swiftly resolved and will not happen again.
We also call on Council’s Environmental Health Department to work with Warrenpoint Port and other relevant stakeholders including the NIEA to compile a comprehensive public report that will be brought back to Council-on how this happened and how it will be resolved so it does not happen again."
